What we look at before fitment

Overlanding equipment only works as a system. Roof load, camp setup time, power and water are planned together so the finished vehicle is still usable every day.

01

Roof load limits

Rack, tent and gear are checked against the vehicle's roof load rating — the dynamic limit while driving matters more than the static camping figure.

02

Rack and mounting type

Full platform, half rack or gutter mounts are chosen for what you carry, the awning side and whether a tent stays on permanently.

03

Camp setup sequence

Tent, awning, kitchen and fridge positions are planned so one does not block another when you set up in the dark.

04

Water and fridge

Tanks, pumps and fridge mounting are placed for weight distribution and for realistic access at camp.

05

Power for camp

Fridge, lighting and charging loads decide the battery and solar specification, which we plan alongside the camp equipment.

06

Weight and stance

The finished touring weight — roof, canopy, water and fuel — is recorded so suspension and tyres are matched to the loaded vehicle.

FAQs

How much weight can I put on my roof?

Every vehicle has a manufacturer dynamic roof load limit, and a roof-top tent plus rack uses a large part of it. We check the figure for your vehicle before specifying a rack.

Roof-top tent or ground tent?

A roof-top tent is quicker to set up and keeps you off the ground, but it adds permanent high weight and affects fuel use and stance. Both work — the choice follows how you travel.

Which side should the awning be on?

Usually the side you camp from, away from the exhaust and clear of doors and the rack ladder. It is worth deciding before the rack is drilled.

Can you build the whole touring setup in stages?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper. We plan the full system first so each stage is compatible with the next rather than being replaced later.

How long does an overlanding build take?

Workshop time depends on the vehicle, the exact products and whether supporting parts are required. We confirm the booking length in writing with the quote before the vehicle comes in.
