What we look at before fitment

A 12V system is specified from the loads you actually run and how long you camp without driving, then built with correct cable sizing, protection and monitoring.

01

Load audit

Fridge, lighting, water pump, inverter, charging and comms are added up in amp-hours per day before any battery is chosen.

02

Battery type and size

Lithium or AGM, and the usable capacity, follow the load audit, the available mounting space and how the vehicle is used.

03

Charging path

DC-DC charging, solenoid or solar — modern smart alternators often require a DC-DC charger to charge an auxiliary battery properly.

04

Solar and shore charging

Fixed or foldable panels and MPPT control are sized for the days you stay in one place, not just for driving days.

05

Protection and cabling

Cable gauge, fusing at both ends, isolation and secure mounting are non-negotiable parts of the install, not options.

06

Monitoring and handover

A shunt or monitor is fitted where it makes sense so you can see state of charge, and the system is explained at handover.

FAQs

Lithium or AGM?

Lithium gives more usable capacity for the weight and handles deep cycling better; AGM costs less up front. The right answer follows your daily amp-hour use and budget.

Do I need a DC-DC charger?

On most modern vehicles with a smart alternator, yes — a plain solenoid will not fully charge an auxiliary battery. We confirm this for your specific vehicle.

How long will my fridge run?

It depends on fridge size, ambient temperature and usable battery capacity. We calculate the expected runtime from the load audit rather than quoting a generic figure.

Can solar be added later?

Yes, if the system is planned for it. We specify the controller, cabling and Anderson points up front so solar can be added without rewiring.

How long does a dual-battery installation take?

Workshop time depends on the vehicle, the exact products and whether supporting parts are required. We confirm the booking length in writing with the quote before the vehicle comes in.
